2403 – I heard Abū Ibrāhīm Ismāʿīl ibn Aḥmad al-Ṭabarī relate from Abū Jaʿfar ibn al-Faḍl al-Ṭabarī that Muḥammad ibn Zayd, the brother of al-Ḥasan ibn Zayd, was once visited by a man from Iraq who began to lament in his presence and then reviled ʿĀʾishah. Muḥammad ibn Zayd rose, seized a pole, struck the man on the head, and killed him. People said to him, “But this man was one of our followers, someone loyal to us.” He replied, “He called my grandfather Qurtan. Whoever calls my grandfather Qurtan deserves to be put to death—so I killed him.”
