2396 – ʿUbayd Allah ibn Aḥmad narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad ibn Ziyād informed us; he said: I heard al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad, Abū Muḥammad al-Ashyab, say to Ismāʿīl ibn Isḥāq: “While al-Maʾmūn was in al-Raqqah, two men were brought before him: one had reviled Fāṭimah and the other ʿĀʾishah. He ordered the execution of the man who had insulted Fāṭimah and spared the other. Ismāʿīl said, ‘The legal ruling for both of them ⦗1344⦘ is that they be put to death, because the one who cursed ʿĀʾishah has, in effect, denied the Quran.’”
