2377 – ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad narrated to us; Muhammad ibn ʿUmar narrated to us; and ʿIsa ibn ⦗1339⦘ ʿUbayd Allah al-Tayalisi also narrated to us, saying: Usayd ibn Zayd al-Jammal narrated to us and said: Qays narrated from Waʾil, from al-Bahi, who said:

“ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar reviled al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad, whereupon ʿUmar resolved to cut out his tongue. Some of the Companions of Muhammad ﷺ spoke to him about the matter, and he said, ‘Leave me to cut out my son’s tongue, so that after me no one will ever dare to insult any of Muhammad’s Companions ﷺ again.’”
