2352 – Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; he said: Aḥmad ibn Isḥāq ibn Wahb informed us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal informed us; he said: ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Muʿādh informed us; he said: Saʿīd related, from Abū Maslamah, from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who said:

“ʿAlī, Ṭalḥah, and al-Zubayr were mentioned, whereupon some people remarked: ‘They had earlier merits to their credit, yet they were overtaken by trials; therefore, refer their affair to Allah.’”
