223—Al-Hasan ibn Uthman informed us. Ahmad ibn Hamdan informed us. Ahmad ibn al-Hasan narrated to us. Abd al-Samad—that is, Mardawayh—narrated to us, saying: I heard al-Fudayl ibn Iyad say: “Do not debate with those given to disputation, for they delve into the verses of Allah.”
٢٢٣ - أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ , قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَمْدَانَ , قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ , قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ , يَعْنِي مَرْدَوَيْهِ , قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْفُضَيْلَ بْنَ عِيَاضٍ يَقُولُ: «لَا تُجَادِلُوا أَهْلَ الْخُصُومَاتِ فَإِنَّهُمْ يَخُوضُونَ فِي آيَاتِ اللَّهِ»
