222—Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman informed us. Ubayd Allah ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Sukkari informed us. Zakariyya ibn Yahya narrated to us. Al-Asma‘i narrated to us, from Salih al-Murri, that Hurm ibn Hayyan said: “The one who engages in speculative theology faces one of two outcomes: if he falls short in it, he will be defeated in argument; and if he delves deeply into it, he will sin.”
