2316 – Muhammad ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Qasim informed us; he said: Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Yaʿqub informed us; he said: my grandfather, Yaʿqub ibn Shaybah, narrated to us; he said: al-Hasan ibn ʿAli narrated to us; he said: al-Asmaʿi narrated to us, from al-Muʿtamir ibn Sulayman, who said: Ishaq ibn Suwayd recited:
I disavow the Khawarij—I do not belong to them,
not to al-Ghazzal among them, nor to Ibn Bab.
Nor do I side with a people who, when ʿAli is named,
send their greetings upward to the clouds.
Instead, with all my heart I love—and I know this is the right course—
the Messenger of Allah and the Truthful One, al-Siddiq (Abu Bakr),
through which I hope for the finest reward.
٢٣١٦ - أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ، قَالَ: أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ، قَالَ: نا جَدِّي، يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ شَيْبَةَ، قَالَ: نا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: نا الْأَصْمَعِيُّ، عَنِ الْمُعْتَمِرِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ: قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سُوَيْدٍ:

بَرِئْتُ مِنَ الْخَوَارِجِ لَسْتُ مِنْهُمْ ... مِنَ الْغَزَّالِ مِنْهُمْ وَابْنِ بَابِ
وَمِنْ قَوْمٍ إِذَا ذَكَرُوا عَلِيًّا ... يَرُدُّونَ السَّلَامَ عَلَى السَّحَابِ
وَلَكِنِّي أُحِبُّ بِكُلِّ قَلْبِي ... وَأَعْلَمُ أَنَّ ذَاكَ مِنَ الصَّوَابِ
رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَالصِّدِّيقَ حَقًّا ... بِمَا أَرْجُو بِهِ حُسْنَ الثَّوَابِ
