2315 – Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Qasim and al-Hasan ibn ʿUthman informed us; they said: Ismaʿil ibn Muhammad narrated to us; he said: Saʿdan ibn Nasr narrated to us; he said: Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from ʿUbayd Allah ibn Abi Yazid, from Ibn ʿAbbas:

When the Khawarij and the intense states they display while reciting the Qur’an were mentioned in his presence, he said, “They do not strive any harder than the Jews and the Christians, yet they still go astray.”
