2310 – ʿAli ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Marwazi told us; he said: ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hatim narrated to us; he said: it was read before Yunus ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿla while I was present and listening, and he said: Ibn Wahb related to us that Malik informed him, from Yahya ibn Saʿid, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Saʿid al-Khudri, who said:
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “There will emerge among you a people such that you will deem your own prayer insignificant compared with theirs, your fasting insignificant compared with theirs, and your deeds insignificant compared with theirs. They recite the Quran, yet it goes no further than their throats. They shoot out of the religion the way an arrow passes clean through its prey: you inspect the arrowhead and see nothing, then you look at the shaft and see nothing, then you look at the feathers and see nothing, and you even wonder about the nock.” ⦗1305⦘
