2309 – ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Jaʿfar said: al-Husayn ibn Ismaʿil related to us; he said: Salm ibn Junadah narrated to us; he said: Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah ⦗1304⦘, who said: Humayd ibn Hilal narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Samit, from Abu Dharr, who reported:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “After me—in my community there will arise a people who recite the Quran, yet it goes no further than their throats. They will dart out of the religion just as an arrow passes clean through its prey, and they will never return to it. They are the worst of humankind and of all creatures.”
Sulayman said, “To the best of my recollection he also said, ‘Their distinguishing mark is that they shave their heads.’”
ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Samit added, “I mentioned this to Rafiʿ ibn ʿAmr, the brother of al-Hakam ibn ʿAmr, and he said, ‘I too heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.’”
This narration was recorded by Muslim on the authority of Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah.
