2292 – ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Yaʿqūb said: “Aḥmad ibn Khālid al-Jazūrī narrated to us; he said: Miḥdam ibn Yaḥyā al-Dhuhlī narrated to us; he said: Qutaybah narrated to us; he said: Yaʿqūb ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, from Abū Ḥāzim, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

‘You must listen and obey, whether you are eager or reluctant and when matters are easy for you’—and some narrators added: ‘and when they are hard for you and when others are granted preference over you.’

Muslim recorded it on the authority of Qutaybah.
