2244 – ʿUbayd Allah ibn Muslim ibn Yahya reported to us; al-Ḥusayn ibn Ismaʿil reported to us; he said: Aḥmad ibn al-Miqdam narrated to us; he said: al-Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us; he said: I heard my father recount that Qatādah narrated to us, from Anas, that the Prophet ﷺ—ḥ.

2245 – ʿUbayd Allah ibn Aḥmad likewise informed us; Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī ibn al-ʿAlāʾ informed us; he said: Aḥmad ibn al-Miqdam narrated to us; he said: al-Muʿtamir narrated to us; he said: I heard my father relate that Qatādah narrated to us, from Anas, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was questioned until they pressed him with their inquiries. On one occasion he said: “Ask me. By Allah, you will not ask me about anything except that I will explain it to you.” A man then rose from one side of the mosque and said, “O Messenger of Allah, who is my father?” He replied, “Your father is Ḥudhāfah.” (The man’s name was Khārijah.) The people fell silent. ʿUmar then stood and said, “We are content with Allah as Lord, with Islam as religion, and with Muhammad ﷺ as Messenger. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of trials.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, “Never have I seen good and evil displayed as on this day. Paradise and Hell were just set before me, and I saw them beyond that wall.” — or words to that effect. Both of them recorded it through the isnād of Saʿīd ibn Abī ʿArūbah, from Qatādah.
