2229 – ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar informed us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Ḥātim informed us; he said: ʿAlī ibn al-Mundhir narrated to us; he said: Ibn Fuḍayl narrated to us; he said: Ḥuṣayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from Ḥassān ibn al-Mukhāriq, from Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Jadalī, who said:

I came to Bayt al-Maqdis and found ʿUbādah ibn al-Ṣāmit, ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, and Kaʿb al-Aḥbār recounting traditions in the mosque. ʿUbādah said, “When the Day of Resurrection comes, Allah will gather the first and the last upon a single plain that the eye can take in and within earshot of the caller. He will say, ‘This is the Day of Decision; We have gathered you and the earlier generations as well. If you have a scheme, then scheme against Me’ (al-Mursalat 77:39). Today no obstinate tyrant shall escape Me, nor any defiant ruler ⦗1255⦘.”

ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr added, “We relate that on that day a neck of the Fire will emerge and advance until, when it stands in the midst of the people, it will call out: ‘O people, I have been sent against three types whom I know better than a father knows his child or a brother knows his brother. No burden will shield them from me, and nothing about them is hidden from me: those who set up another deity beside Allah, every arrogant tyrant, and every rebellious sovereign.’ It will wrap itself around them and hurl them into the Fire forty years before the reckoning.”
