2216 – Ahmad ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us; ʿAli ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Mubashshir narrated to us; he said: Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Abi Nuʿaym narrated to us; he said: Ibrahim ibn Saʿd, from al-Zuhri, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yazīd, from Abu Hurayrah, reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“The ṣirāṭ (Bridge) will be laid across the back of Hell, and I and my community will be the first to cross it. On that Day no one will speak except the messengers, and the supplication of the messengers will be: ‘O Allah, grant safety, grant safety.’ Inside Hell there are hooks like the thorns of the saʿdān shrub.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) then asked, “Have you ever seen the thorns of the saʿdān?” They replied, “Yes.” He said, “They are like the thorns of the saʿdān, but only Allah Most High knows their immense size. They will snatch people in proportion to their deeds.”

Both Imams recorded this ḥadīth.
