2195 — Muhammad ibn ʿAlī al-Sāwī narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Ḥātim narrated to us; he said: Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj narrated to us; he said: Wakīʿ narrated to us—
2196 — Likewise, Muhammad ibn ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd and ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Aḥmad narrated to us; they said: Muḥammad ibn Makhlad narrated to us; he said: Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm al-Baghawī narrated to us; he said: Wakīʿ, from al-Aʿmash, from Khaythamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“There is none of you but that Allah will speak to him, with no interpreter between him and Allah ⦗1238⦘. He will look to his right—meaning his right-hand side—and see nothing but what he put forward. He will look to his left—meaning his left-hand side—and see nothing but what he put forward. He will look ahead of him, and the Fire will confront him. So whoever among you can shield himself from the Fire, even if only with half a date, let him do so.”
Al-Bukhari and Muslim both recorded this report.
