2188 – Ahmad ibn ʿUbayd related to us; ʿAli ibn ʿAbd Allah likewise related to us and said: Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us; he said: Abu Muʿawiyah narrated to us; he said: al-Aʿmash, from Abu Ṣāliḥ, from Abu Hurayrah, reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Between the two blasts of the Horn there are forty.” They asked, “O Abu Hurayrah, forty years?” He replied, “I decline to specify.” They said, “Forty months?” He replied, “I decline to specify.” They said, “Forty days?” He replied, “I decline to specify.” The Prophet then said: “Thereafter Allah will send down a water, and people will sprout forth like vegetation. Nothing of the human being will remain without decaying except one bone—the tailbone—from which the whole creation will be reconstructed on the Day of Resurrection.”
