2178 – Muhammad ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Naḍr reported: ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Mubashshir narrated to us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥarb narrated to us; he said: Abū Marwān narrated to us, from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, who said: I heard Ibn ʿUmar say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood over the well of Badr and said, “Have you found what your Lord promised you to be true?” He then added, “They can now hear what I am saying.”
I mentioned this to ʿĀʾisha, and she replied, “O Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ only stood over the well of Badr and said, ‘They now know that what I used to tell them is the truth, and they are indeed in the Fire.’” She then recited: “Surely you cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear the call when they turn away in retreat” (Qur’an 27:80).
