2165 – Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman narrated to us; he said: Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn Saʿid narrated to us; he said: al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan narrated to us; he said: Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from Misʿar, from Abu Qays, from Hudhayl ibn Shurahbil, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Masʿud, who said: “The spirits of Pharaoh’s household are lodged inside black birds. They are brought before the Fire twice each day, and it is said to them, ‘This is your dwelling.’ That is the meaning of His words: ‘The Fire— they are exposed to it morning and evening’ (Quran 40:46).”
