2161 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn also told us; he said: Ahmad narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us; he said: ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmar narrated from Yūnus, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Kaʿb, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The believer’s soul is but a bird.” In Mālik’s version: “–a bird that alights on the trees of Paradise until Allah returns it to his body on the Day He resurrects him,” while another wording of Mālik has: “–to his body.”
