2156. Kūhiyy ibn al-Ḥasan narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn al-Qāsim likewise, who said: I heard al-Ḥārith al-Muḥāsibī recounting to my father:

“I was once in the cemetery here at Bab al-Mughayr, standing on an elevation that overlooked the graves. All at once I heard the rattle of spear-shafts striking one another. While I was still looking over the cemetery, the sound came from a particular grave, and a voice inside was groaning, ‘Oh! Oh!’

I climbed down to the grave from which I had heard the noise, but the matter became unclear to me. So I called for the gravedigger and asked, ‘Do you know this grave?’ He replied, ‘Yes, I have known it for years.’ I then asked, ‘Do you know any family of his?’ He said, ‘No, but I used to know them; they used to come here years ago.’”
