204—Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Ziyad al-Naysaburi informed us. He said: Makki ibn Abdan informed us. He said: Abd Allah ibn Hashim narrated to us. He said: Sufyan narrated to us.
205—Ahmad ibn Ubayd also informed us. He said: Ali ibn Abd Allah ibn Mubashshir informed us. He said: Muhammad ibn al-Wazir ibn Qays narrated to us. He said: Sufyan narrated to us from ⦗140⦘ al-Zuhri, from Sinan ibn Abi Sinan, from Abu Waqid al-Laythi, that when the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, came to Hunayn, they passed by a tree upon which the polytheists used to hang their weapons, called Dhat Anwat (the Hanging Tree). They said, “O Messenger of Allah, appoint for us a Dhat Anwat.” He replied, “Allah is greatest! This is just as the people of Moses said: ‘Make for us a god just as they have gods’ [al-A'raf: 138]. You will surely follow the ways of those who came before you.” This is the wording of Muhammad ibn al-Wazir.
