2149 – Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Qāsim reported: Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Razzāq ibn al-Ḥasan narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm al-Ṣūrī narrated to us; al-Firyābī narrated to us; al-Sarī ibn Yaḥyā, from Mālik ibn Dīnār, who said:
“I was walking with Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allah until we reached the cemetery. He said, ‘My father told me that, as he was returning from Mecca and passed by this very graveyard, a man suddenly came out of his grave wrapped in flames. The she-camel started to bolt, but I kept restraining her and looking on in astonishment ⦗1215⦘. The man was crying, “Servant of Allah, pour water on me!” I do not know whether, by saying “Servant of Allah,” he was addressing me by name or speaking the way one man addresses another.
‘Then another man emerged from the grave holding the end of a chain and said, “Do not pour water on him—he merits no favor.” He drew the man close to the grave with the chain, then struck him with a whip blazing with fire until he forced him back into the grave.’”
I said to Mālik ibn Dīnār, “Did you hear this directly from Sālim?” He replied, “Yes.” I then said, “I testify that you have not lied about Sālim, Sālim has not lied about ʿAbd Allah, and ʿAbd Allah has not lied…”
