2147 – Muhammad ibn al-Muzaffar ibn ʿAli ibn Harb reported to us; Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Naysaburi narrated to us; he said: I heard Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Khayri al-Muzakki say: ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Harith al-Sanʿani ⦗1213⦘ told me; he said: I heard Hawthara ibn Muhammad al-Minqari al-Basri say:

“I saw Yazid ibn Harun al-Wasiti in a dream four nights after his death. I asked him, ‘What has Allah done with you?’ He replied, ‘He accepted my good deeds, overlooked my misdeeds, and granted me al-tabaʿul (loving devotion).’ I asked, ‘And what followed after that?’ He said, ‘What else can one expect from the Most Generous but generosity? He forgave my sins and admitted me into Paradise.’

I asked, ‘By what means did you attain what you have attained?’ He answered, ‘Through gatherings of remembrance, supporting the truth, my honesty in hadith, long hours of standing in prayer, and my patience in poverty.’

I said, ‘Are Munkar and Nakir real?’ He replied, ‘Yes, by Allah—there is no deity but Him! They seated me upright and asked, “Who is your Lord? What is your religion? Who is your Prophet?” I shook the white dust from my beard and said, “Is someone like me to be questioned? I am Yazid ibn Harun al-Wasiti; for sixty years in the abode of this world I taught the people.” One of them then said to the other, “Confirm what he says.” They said, “O Yazid ibn Harun, sleep the sleep of a bride; no terror shall befall you after today.”’”
