2129 – Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-ʿAbbās related to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Baghawī related to us; he said: Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah related to us; he said: Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUlayyah, from al-Jurayrī, from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who said:
Zayd ibn Thābit said: While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in a garden belonging to the Banū al-Najjār, riding one of his mules, it suddenly shied ⦗1203⦘ and almost threw him. We then noticed a grave containing six—or perhaps five, or four—people. He said, “This community is certainly tried in its graves. Were it not that you would stop burying one another, I would have asked Allah to let you hear something of the punishment of the grave that I am hearing.” Then he said, “Seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave.” We replied, “We seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave.” He said, “Seek refuge with Allah from trials.” We said, “We seek refuge with Allah from trials, both outward and hidden.” He said, “Seek refuge with Allah from the False Messiah (al-Dajjāl).” We said, “We seek refuge with Allah from the False Messiah.”
Muslim also recorded it through the narration of Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah.
