2122 – ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Muḥammad b. Aḥmad likewise told us; he said: al-Ḥusayn b. Ismāʿīl narrated to us; he said: Yūsuf b. Mūsā narrated to us; he said: Abū al-Walīd narrated to us; he said: Shuʿbah b. al-Ḥajjāj informed me; he said: ʿAlqamah b. Marthad told me, from Saʿd b. ʿUbaydah, from al-Barāʾ that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When the Muslim is questioned in the grave, he bears witness that there is no deity but Allah and that Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. That is the meaning of His words: ‘Allah makes firm those who believe with the steadfast word in the life of this world’ (Qur’an 14:27).”
This is the wording of Abū al-Walīd. Both of them transmitted it—Muḥammad b. Bashshār and al-Bukhārī—and Abū Dāwūd also reported it, all through Abū al-Walīd.
