198—al-Hasan ibn Uthman informed us. He said: Ahmad ibn al-Husayn informed us. He said: Idris ibn Abd al-Karim narrated to us. He said: Khalaf ibn Hisham narrated to us. He said: Abd al-Mumin al-Mafluj al-Basri narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us. He said: I heard al-Hasan say: Muadh said:
“I fear for you only three things after me: the slip of a scholar; the disputation of a hypocrite concerning the Quran—yet the Quran is truth, and it contains clear landmarks like the signposts of a road. So accept whatever you recognize from it. And whoever has no righteous deed in this worldly life has no religion.”
Abd al-Mumin said: I asked my father, “What did he mean by this?” He replied, “We asked him, and he said: ‘Whoever has no righteous deed in this worldly life has no religion.’”
