2083 – ʿĪsā ibn ʿAlī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Baghawī narrated to us and said: Hudbah ibn Khālid narrated to us; he said: Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, from ʿAlī ibn Zayd—[chain broken].
2084 – And ʿUbayd ibn Aḥmad and I [i.e., the previous transmitter] both said: Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī ibn al-ʿAlāʾ narrated to us; he said: Ziyād ibn Ayyūb narrated to us; he said: Hushaym narrated to us; he said: ʿAlī ibn Zayd narrated to us; he said: Yūsuf ibn Mihrān, from Ibn ʿAbbās, said:
“ʿUmar once delivered a sermon in which he spoke about al-rajm (stoning). He said, ‘Do not let anyone mislead you about it, for it is one of the prescribed limits of Allah. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ carried out the stoning penalty, and we enforced it after him. Were it not that some people might say, “ʿUmar has added to the Book of Allah what is not in it,” I would have written in the margin of the codex: “ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, So-and-so, and So-and-so bear witness that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ carried out the stoning penalty, and we enforced it after him.” Know that a people will appear who deny the stoning penalty, the Dajjāl (Antichrist), the punishment of the grave, and the people who will be brought out of the Fire after they have been scorched.’”
