2071 – Ahmad ibn ʿUbayd related to us; ʿAli ibn Mubashshir related to us; he said: Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us; he said: Abu Muʿāwiyah narrated to us; he said: al-Aʿmash narrated to us.
2072 – And Ahmad said: ʿAli narrated to us; he said: ʿAbbās narrated to us; he said: ʿUbaydullāh ibn Mūsā narrated to us; he said: Shaybān, from al-Aʿmash, from al-Maʿrūr, from Abū Dharr, who traced it back to the Prophet ﷺ:
“I know the last person who will come out of the Fire and the last of the people of Paradise to enter it. He is a man who will be brought forward; his minor sins will be laid out before him while his major sins are concealed. He will be asked, ‘Do you remember the day you committed such-and-such and such-and-such?’ He will answer, ‘Yes,’ all the while fearing that his major sins might be exposed. When the presentation of his sins is concluded, it will be said to him, ‘Go, for every sin of yours has been replaced with a good deed.’ He will then say, ‘My Lord, there were other sins I do not see here!’”
Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recounted this ḥadīth, he would laugh until his molar teeth were visible.
