2070 – Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman and ʿIsa ibn ʿAli related to us; they said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAziz narrated to us; he said: Abu Nasr al-Tammar narrated to us; he said: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from ʿAtaʾ ibn al-Saʾib, from ʿAmr ibn Maymun, that Ibn Masʿud reported from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace):
“There will remain in the Fire a people for as long as Allah wills them to remain. Then He will show them mercy and bring them out. They will be placed in the lowest tier of Paradise and washed in a river called al-Hayawān. The dwellers of Paradise will call them al-Jahannamiyyūn—‘the former inmates of Hell.’ If one of them were to host all the inhabitants of the world, he could feed them, give them drink, spread bedding for them, and provide them with covers.”
Hammad added, “I think he also said: ‘and supply them with provisions, and that would not diminish what he possesses in the least.’” The wording in both transmissions is identical.
