2059 – I, ʿAbd Allah ibn Muslim, said: al-Husayn ibn Ismaʿil informed us; he said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Makharmi narrated to us; he said: Muʿādh ibn Hishām narrated to us; he said: my father, from Qatādah, from Abū al-Mutawakkil, from Abū Saʿīd, who reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“When the believers are finally delivered from the Fire, they will be stopped at a bridge (qanṭarah) between Paradise and Hell. There they will be purified and refined; once this is accomplished, permission will be granted for them to enter Paradise. By Him in whose hand lies the soul of Muḥammad, each of them will be more familiar with his dwelling in Paradise than he ever was with his home in this world.” ⦗1170⦘ Recorded by Muslim.
