2054 – ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar reported to us; he said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Ḥātim reported to us; he said: Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj narrated to us; he said: Ibn Abī Ghuniyyah narrated to us; he said: al-ʿAwwām ibn Ḥawshab narrated to us, from Yazīd al-Faqīr, who said:

I said to Jābir, “O Companions of Muhammad, you claim that a group of people will be brought out of the Fire, yet Allah says, ‘They will wish to escape the Fire, but they will never leave it’ (Q 5:37). By doing so, you are limiting what the text states in general terms.” He replied, “Recite what comes before that verse; you will find that it concerns the unbelievers.”
