2036 – Ahmad ibn ʿUbayd reported to us; ʿAli ibn ʿAbd Allah reported to us; he said: Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us; he said: ʿAmr ibn ʿAwn narrated to us; he said: Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Ḥusayn, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Asmaʾ bint Yazid, that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“What is the matter with you that I see you hurling yourselves into falsehood the way moths hurl themselves into a flame? Every lie is inevitably recorded—without exception—except for a man who lies to his family so they may be pleased with him, a man who lies in order to reconcile between two disputants, and a man who lies during war, for war is deception.”
