2022 — Al-Qāsim ibn Jaʿfar informed us; al-Ḥasan ibn ʿUthmān reported; he said: Yaʿqūb ibn Sufyān narrated to us; he said: Ṣafwān ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us; he said: ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid narrated; he said: I heard al-Awzāʿī. He was asked about a flagrant sinner whose wickedness was well known: “Should he be cursed?” He replied, “Look at Abū Muslim and Marwān—both were among the worst of this community—yet I still do not like to curse them.”
