“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, recited this verse: ‘It is He who has sent down to you the Book. Some of its verses are precise in meaning—they are the foundation of the Book—while others are ambiguous’ [Al ʿImran: 7], until he reached: ‘But none will be mindful of this except people of reason’ [al-Baqarah: 269]. Then the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ‘When you see those who pursue its ambiguous passages, they are the ones whom Allah has named; so beware of them.’”
