1993 — ʿUbayd Allah ibn Ahmad told us; al-Ḥusayn ibn Ismaʿil related to us; he said: Muhammad ibn al-Muthannā narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us; he said: Shuʿbah narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Malik, from Ribʿī ibn Ḥirāsh, from Hudhayfah, from the Prophet ﷺ:
“A man died and entered Paradise. He was asked, ‘What deeds did you used to do?’ Either he mentioned them of his own accord or was prompted, and he replied, ‘I used to conduct business with people: I would grant respite to anyone in difficulty, and I was lenient when weighing out the coins or accepting payment.’ So he was forgiven.”
Abū Masʿūd said, “I heard this from the Prophet ﷺ.”
Al-Bukhārī and Muslim both recorded it.
