1989 – Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Yaʿqūb related to us; Muhammad ibn Hārūn al-Ruwayānī narrated to us; he said: Abū Bakr narrated to us; he said: Ibn Idrīs, from al-Aʿmash, from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAlqama, from ʿAbd Allah (ibn Masʿūd), said:
When the verse, “Those who believe and do not mix their faith with wrongdoing” (Q 6:82), was revealed, it weighed heavily on the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, which one of us has not wronged himself?” He said, “Have you not heard His words: ‘Indeed, associating partners with Allah is a grave injustice’ (Q 31:13)?”
Ibn Idrīs added: “I heard my father cite it from Abān ibn Taghlib, from al-Aʿmash, and afterwards I heard it directly from al-Aʿmash.”
Muslim transmitted it through Abū Kurayb, and al-Bukhārī through the narration of al-Aʿmash.
