Sharh Usul Itiqad Ahl al-Sunnah wa-al-JamaahAl-Lalakai

1984 – Al-Hasan ibn ʿUthmān reported: “Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; he said: Isḥāq narrated to us; he said: Aḥmad ibn Abī al-Jawzāʾ narrated to us; he said: Marwān ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; he said: Sulaymān ibn Mūsā narrated to us; he said: Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd al-Malik narrated to us; he said: I heard ⦗1136⦘ Zurayq say, ‘I heard ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib recite: “No calamity strikes except by Allah’s permission” (Qur’an 64:11).’ He then declared:
‘No servant commits a sin in this world for which Allah seizes him without it being more generous of Allah than to call him to account for it tomorrow. And no servant commits a sin in this world that Allah conceals for him without it being more generous of Allah than to call him to account for it tomorrow in the Hereafter.’”
Aḥmad said—Marwān concurred—“No hadith has been transmitted in Islam better than this one.”
