1969 – ʿUbayd Allah ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī narrated to us, saying: al-Ḥusayn ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us; Ibn Karamah narrated to us; Abū Usāmah narrated to us; he said: Mālik ibn Mighwal told me, from al-Zubayr ibn ʿAdī, from Ṭalḥah ibn Muṣarrif, from Murrah, from ʿAbd Allah… ⦗1131⦘
1970 – ʿUbayd Allah likewise related to us; al-Ḥusayn likewise related, saying: Ibn Abī—meaning Maʿmar—related to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Mughīrah narrated to us; Mālik ibn Mighwal narrated to us, from Ṭalḥah, from Murrah ibn Sharāḥīl, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Masʿūd, who said:
“When he reached—meaning sidrat al-muntahā (the Lote Tree of the Farthest Boundary)….”
Ibn Karamah’s wording is as follows: “When the Prophet ﷺ was taken on the Night Journey and arrived at sidrat al-muntahā, which is in the sixth heaven—everything that rises from the earth stops there and is taken up from it, and everything that descends from above stops there and is taken down from it—Allah’s words apply: ‘When there covered the Lote Tree what covered it’ (Q. 53:16); it was butterflies of gold. There he was granted the five daily prayers, he was granted the closing verses of Sūrat al-Baqarah, and anyone of his community who does not associate partners with Allah was forgiven the destructive sins.”
Ibn al-Mughīrah’s version states: “His community was forgiven so long as they do not associate anything whatsoever with Allah.”
This narration was recorded by al-Bukhārī and Muslim on the authority of Abū Usāmah.
