1966 – Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-ʿAbbās related to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Ziyād narrated to us; he said: Mawhab ibn Yazīd ibn Khālid narrated to us; he said: Ḍamrah said, “Ibrāhīm ibn Abī ʿAblah told me, from —”
1967 – And I, al-Qāsim ibn Jaʿfar, was also told: Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿAmr narrated to us; he said: Sulaymān ibn al-Ashʿath narrated to us; he said: ʿĪsā ibn Muḥammad al-Ramli narrated to us; he said: Ḍamrah narrated to us, from Ibn Abī ʿAblah, from al-Gharīf ibn al-Daylamī, who said:
“I came to Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ, and we said to him, ‘Relate to us a ḥadīth with neither addition nor omission.’ He grew angry and said, ‘One of you recites while his copy of the Quran is hanging in his house, and yet he adds and subtracts!’
We replied, ‘All we want is a ḥadīth you yourself heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.’
He said, ‘We went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ concerning a companion of ours who had made it incumbent—meaning through killing—to enter the Fire ⦗1128⦘. He said, “Set a slave free on his behalf; every limb of that slave will ransom a corresponding limb of his from the Fire.”’
(This wording is that of the narration of ʿĪsā ibn Muḥammad. Mawhab added: ‘even his private parts for his private parts.’)
