1956 — ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn ʿAlī ibn Ghiyāth narrated to us; he said: al-Ḥusayn ibn Yaḥyā narrated to us; he said: Ibrāhīm ibn Mujashshir reported to us; he said: Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh reported to us; he said: I heard Abū Isḥāq al-Sabīʿī say:
A man came to ʿUmar and said, “Commander of the Believers, I have killed—do I still have a path to repentance?” ʿUmar recited to him, “Ḥā Mīm. The revelation of the Book is from Allah, the Almighty, the All-Knowing, Forgiver of sin and Accepter of repentance, severe in punishment…” (Sūrat Ghāfir 40:2), and then told him, “Act, and never despair.”
