1949 – ʿĪsā ibn ʿAlī also related to us; he said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad al-Baghawī narrated to us; he said: ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us; he said: Abū al-Aḥwaṣ narrated to us, from Simāk, from al-Nuʿmān, who said: ʿUmar was asked about “sincere repentance.” He replied, “Sincere repentance is for a servant to renounce the sinful deed he used to commit, and then never return to it ever again.”
