177—Ahmad ibn ʿUbayd informed us: ʿAli ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Mubashshir informed us; Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Numayr narrated to us, from Hajjaj ibn Dinar al-Wasiti, from Abu Ghalib, from Abu Umamah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“No people went astray after having been upon guidance except that they were given to disputation.” Then he recited:

“They cited him to you only for the sake of argument. Indeed, they are a contentious people.” [al-Zukhruf 43:58]
