1913 – Al-Ḥasan ibn ʿUthmān informed us; he said: Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan narrated to us; he said: Al-Ḥārith ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; he said: Al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Faḍl narrated to us; he said: Ḥarb ibn Shaddād narrated to us; he said: Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr, from ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr, stated that his father told him:

“I was with the Prophet ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage when I heard him say: ‘Behold, the allies of Allah are those who observe the prayer. Whoever performs every prescribed prayer as it is due, pays the obligatory zakah seeking Allah’s reward, fasts the month of Ramadan, and keeps clear of the major sins—’

A man asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what are the major sins?’

He replied, ‘They are seven: the gravest of them is associating partners with Allah; killing a believing soul; fleeing from the battlefield; disobeying one’s parents; sorcery; and violating the sanctity of the Sacred House. Whoever meets Allah free of these will enter a Garden whose gates are of gold.’”
