A Bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what are the major sins?”
He replied, “Associating partners with Allah.”
The man asked, “Then what?”
He said, “Ingratitude toward one’s parents.”
He asked, “Then what?”
He said, “Then the yamin al-ghamūs (the perjurious, plunging oath).”
I asked ʿAmir, “What is the yamin al-ghamūs?”
He answered, “It is when a man seizes the wealth of a fellow Muslim by means of a false oath while he is lying.”
This narration was recorded by al-Bukhari.
