1887 – Muḥammad b. Abī Bakr narrated to us; he said: Muḥammad b. Muḥammad narrated to us; he said: Muḥammad b. Ḥassān b. Fayrūz al-Azraq narrated to us; he said: Ibn Mahdī—meaning ʿAbd al-Raḥmān—narrated to us; he said: Shuʿbah narrated to me; he said: Zubayd narrated to me and said, “I said to Abū Wāʾil, while mentioning the Murjiʾah, and he replied, ‘I heard Ibn Masʿūd report from the Prophet ﷺ: “Reviling a Muslim is sinful defiance, and fighting him is disbelief.”’ He confirmed, ‘Yes.’” Saʿīd added: “Mansūr and Sulaymān narrated to me, from Abū Wāʾil, from ʿAbd Allāh, from the Prophet ﷺ, with the same wording.”
