1878 – ʿAbd Allah Ahmad b. ʿAli reported: al-Ḥusayn b. Ismāʿīl narrated to us; he said: Yūsuf b. Mūsā narrated to us; he said: Jarīr and Ibn Numayr transmitted, from al-Aʿmash, from ʿAbd Allah b. Murrah, from Masrūq, from ʿAbd Allah b. ʿAmr, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Four traits, whoever possesses them is a pure hypocrite: when he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; when he enters into a pact, he betrays it; and when he disputes, he exceeds all bounds. Whoever displays one of these traits has within him a trait of hypocrisy until he abandons it.”
Al-Bukhārī recorded this ḥadīth through Qutaybah, and Muslim through Abū Bakr, both from Ibn Numayr.
