Here follows the textual context of the reports transmitted from the Prophet ﷺ that say, “Reviling a Muslim is outrageous sin, and fighting him is disbelief,” as well as the reports defining the mark of the hypocrite. The meaning of this statement—Allah knows best—is that when a Muslim abuses another Muslim and slanders him, he is lying, and a liar is a flagrant sinner (fasiq); thus the title of “faith” is lifted from him. Should he go so far as to deem fighting him permissible, he thereby becomes a disbeliever. A report conveying this same purport is also narrated from Ibn Masʿūd.
