1871 – Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman reported: ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Baghawi told us; he said: Suwayd ibn Saʿid narrated to us; he said: Faraj ibn Faḍāla narrated to us, from Luqman ibn ʿAmir, from Abu al-Darda’, who said:
“Faith is nothing but like one of your shirts: at one moment a person takes it off, at another he puts it back on. By Allah, no servant ever feels secure about his faith without it being stripped away from him, whereupon he discovers that it is gone.”
