1864 – Al-Qāsim ibn Jaʿfar reported to us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿAmr narrated to us; he said: Sulaymān ibn al-Ashʿath narrated to us; he said: Isḥāq ibn Manṣūr narrated to us; he said: Ibn Abī Maryam narrated to us; he said: Nāfiʿ—meaning Ibn Yazīd—narrated to us; he said: Ibn al-Hād informed me that Saʿīd ibn Abī Saʿīd al-Maqburī related to him that he heard Abū Hurayrah say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“When a man commits fornication, faith departs from him and hovers over him like a shadow; but when he desists, faith returns to him.”
