1858 – ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿUmar narrated to us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us; he said: Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us; he said: Maʿmar narrated to us, from Hammām ibn Munabbih, from Abū Hurayrah, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“A thief is not a believer at the very moment he steals; a fornicator is not a believer at the very moment he fornicates; and no one drinks an intoxicant—that is, wine—while believing. By Him in whose hand Muhammad’s soul rests, none of you snatches a valued piece of property that draws the believers’ eyes toward it at the very moment he seizes it while he is a believer, and none of you embezzles from the spoils at the very moment he embezzles while he is a believer. So beware, beware!”
Muslim also recorded it.
